Yard Sale - June
20, 2006
|
June 20, 2006Our annual fund raising event starts off at Arcadia park. This year I decide to try out my new stove and cook some beans before the pot luck dinner. |
|
| George and Pam make final
preparations for the pot luck and Silent Auction while other lookouts
standby for the "come and get it" call. |
|
| Come and get it. The food is served. Most all of our events have a pot luck. Fire Lookouts and food must be related just like the fire fighters in the firehouse also focus on food. |
|
| If a fire lookout works more
than 24 hours (total) during the season, they will be awarded a green
or a blue shirt. The color alternates from year to year.
The red shirt that Rick is wearing is awarded for working over a
hundred hours on the South Mt. Hawkins fund. |
|
| All fire lookouts are asked
to donate items for the fund raising. The item is put on the
table with a paper and a pen. People walk by and put their bid
for the item on the paper. At a certain time, all biding is
closed and the item is sold to the highest bidder. All the money
goes to the Association. |

In our life we get to meet
some really neat people, but as a part of life we also have to say
goodbye. Deb is one of our Fire Lookouts that was hired by the
U.S. Forest Service and is moving out of state for her job. We
actually said goodbye to Deb last year, but she was on hold for many
months. At this writing, last I heard, she still is waiting but she moved to the location to get things going for her and her husband. Deb has a love for Geology and did some great demonstrations showing fault movement using colored sponges. Now that she is gone, I've picked up the Geology lecture for the new applicants and I went out and got a set of my own colored sponges. Good luck, fair winds, and following seas Deb in whatever you do. Please keep in touch. |
| Pam makes a few announcements
and closes the bidding. We made about $300 that will be used for
our Association operations. |
