Hello, my name is Charles and I am presently a U.S. Forest Service Volunteer Fire Lookout, participating with the Angeles National Forest Fire Lookout Association (website).  There are many books about fire lookouts, but not much about modern lookouts of today, so this is my log presented here on-line so that I may share my childhood dream and adventures with you my friends.  All views here are mine and mine alone if you know what I mean, but it is with pride that I try to live up to the standards that so many people that also wear the green uniform of the U.S. Forest Service do and I have been told by Forest Service personnel that my log is a credit to the Forest Service.  I hope my pride in volunteering becomes apparent as you read on because it is said that "volunteers are the heartbeat of the Forest Service" and I am proud to help out as I can.  Please read the disclaimers at the bottom of this page.

Ramona Merwin and family share their experiences of living and working for 31 years at Vetter Mountain Lookout.  A truly historic look of the tower, and living the life of being a full time Forest Service Fire Lookout family.
